Thing 17
These tools would be helpful in building creative word walls that could be printed and hung around the room. At the end of each chapter the students could build their own wordle using wordle.net or tagxedo using tagxedo.com with the vocabulary from the chapter. The students could use bubbl.us or gliffy.com to build venn diagrams, flow charts, or concept maps to connect vocabulary and concepts. They could also use bubbl.us or gliffy to take notes linking concepts and skills together. Sometimes in chemistry a multi-step process is used bubbl.us or gliffy would be useful to organize this information. For myself it would be a good lesson starter to ask the students to identify words they already know and discuss them in groups then as a whole class. These graphic organizers and word walls can be embedded into various things such as documents or presentations. I think the students are going to be excited to use these and may choose to post them on their web page. Of course these could be use during professional developments to stimulate thought and start discussions. The number of activities that these tools can be used for goes on and on.
